Violets

I visited Laura's blog 52 Flea and was reading her wonderful post on the Royal Wedding *here* and it reminded me of a poem about violets that I found written in the back of my mother's recipe book and thought I would share it. My mother passed away in 1976 and to see this written in her handwriting brings back memories of a very happy childhood. I hope you enjoy this sweet little poem as much as I do.

A little shy blue violet
Who never cared to roam
Between a nettle and a dock
She made her tiny home
She thought I'm safely hidden
By curtain green and cool
The children will not see me
When going by to school
But the wind who keeps no secret
Waft her scent about
And one child cried I smell violets
And so they found her out

Pink bunnies and black sheep!

Here is Katrina's - A Kiwi Stitching - version of Sew a Brown Bunny. As you can see Katrina changed the bunnies to pink - how sweet does this look? Stitched on 32ct coffee dyed linen with CC Bella Rosa and Eve's Leaves, Katrina finished this as a very pretty pillow. Thank you Katrina for allowing me to post this here.

Sew a Brown Bunny (or Pink Bunnies!) can still be found *here* or by clicking on the CHARTS button on the sidebar.

Edgar, our very own Blacksheep, is holding a 4th blogoversary giveaway so go *here* and wish him a happy birthday and you will have a chance of winning one of his wonderful giveaways.

Today is the Royal Wedding here in the UK. Prince William and Harry have just arrived at Westminster Abbey but no sign of the bride as yet - I wonder if she will be late? I've just finished my chores so now I'll sit down to stitch and watch the wedding on the tv as my actual invite failed to arrive!

Thanks for visiting, have a lovely weekend
Take care

A new start, an ebay find and another Brown Bunny!

(Click on the picture for a closeup view)

I have been wanting to stitch Douceur de vivre by Jardin Privé since it was gifted to me a while ago. I have now ordered, and received, the HDF conversion threads and cut my fabric - 48ct nacre Gander linen - to size so I am ready to make a start. I love the colours against the nacre linen.

I must tell you about the scissors shown in the picture. I found these on ebay and paid the princely sum of 99p (approx. $1.63) for them. The seller said that they had belonged to her grand-mother. Can you imagine selling embroidery scissors that belonged to your grand-mother?!! Her loss is my gain and they are now proudly on display in one of my glass frogs.

Geneva (no blog) sent me a picture of her version of Sew a Brown Bunny. It is beautifully stitched on Zweigart Newcastle 40ct flax linen with DMC 469 and 838 and charmingly finished as a little pillow stuffed with crushed walnut shells. Thank you Geneva for allowing me to post your picture. I so wish I could get crushed walnut shells here in the UK. I did go to a pet store in Sarasota last year but they only had enormous sacks which were far too large to bring back with me!

Sew a Brown Bunny is still available *here* or by clicking on the CHARTS button on the sidebar.

The lovely weather we had over Easter has now gone and, although we still have a little sunshine, there is a very cold breeze coming off the sea. I suppose this is the downside of living near the ocean.

Thanks for visiting
Take care

iStitch Designs finishes

First finish was sent to me by Dora (no blog). This is Dora's beautiful version of Sew Golden which she stitched as commemorative piece for the Royal Wedding by adding a C and a W and the date of the wedding. It is stitched on 36ct antique white linen using DMC 729 and CC Granny Annie; a pre-made blue trim from Joanns compliments the edges. A lovely memento Dora!

These very pretty Love freebies were stitched by Marty (no blog). She used 32ct Lakeside Linen and GA Rose Garden and for the light pink hearts GA Tea Rose. The rick rack was dyed with Wine Rit dye. One of these found a home with Marty's MIL, one with her husband's Aunt and the third she kept for herself. It must have been difficult to choose which one to keep as all three are lovely!

Last but certainly not least, Sew a Brown Bunny makes another appearance - he certainly is a very popular brown bunny! This very pretty pillow was stitched by Shari of Shari's Sharings on 32ct Legacy Lugana by Picture this Plus using HDF silk threads in Imperial Green 3333 and Quern Stones 5165. It is backed with the fabric in the background.

A big thank you to Dora, Marty and Shari for allowing me to share these finishes on my blog.

Sew Golden, Love and Sew a Brown Bunny are all still available *here* or by clicking on the CHARTS button on the sidebar.

I have been stitching but nothing I can show as it's a gift. We are having wonderful weather for the Easter weekend so I have been spending plenty of time in the garden. My bug is almost gone although I do still have a tickle cough which is nothing like the cough I've had for the last two weeks.

Thanks for visiting - enjoy the Easter holiday with lots of stitching and lots of chocolate too!
Take care

Brown bunnies are multiplying!

Two more 'Sew a Brown Bunny' finishes. The first is by the lovely Becky of Becky Bee's Stitching Hive. Stitched on 32ct linen hand-dyed by Becky with GAST threads, Becky finished this as a pillow with green and white gingham fabric.and she also added lace through which she ran a length of brown and white gingham ribbon. There is also something slightly different to the original pattern - can you see what? There are more pictures over on Becky's blog.

The second 'Brown Bunny' is stitched by Karen of 'Karen's Handiwork' who stitched it on 36ct linen with ST Maple Syrup and Chives.

A big thank you to both Becky and Karen for letting me showcase their beautiful versions of Sew a Brown Bunny. The chart is still available *here* or by clicking on the CHARTS button on the sidebar.

If you have any iStitch Design that you have stitched and finished, I would love to see them and showcase them here. My email address can be found on my profile so just send me a picture, details of fabrics and threads and a link to your blog.

Does anyone know Colleen H of New Brunswick Canada? She ordered a chart from me which I have sent to her twice at the address supplied by Paypal. On both occasions it has bounced back. Colleen, if you are reading this, please contact me with an alternative email address.

Stitchnmomma failed to collect her prize in my recent giveway so I drew another number - 3 - which is Bertie of Samplers & Buttons. Congratulations to Bertie!

You may wonder what I've been up to lately. I have finished stitching the model for my new design but it needs to be 'finished'. As I do not have any suitable backing fabric, this means a trip to the fabric store in Canterbury. A small hint - scissors. So those of you who are, like me, a scissor addict, you might just like this one!

My 'bug' is at long last on it's way out although I still have a nagging cough and I am extremely tired but I'm feeling a lot better today. The sun is shining so no guesses as to where I will be spending the remainder of the day! The question is 'shall I stitch or read'?

Thanks for visiting - have a wonderful Easter
Take care

LV Paris *Edited*

Here is my latest finish for my red wall. I seem to remember that this was a freebie but I cannot now remember where from. If anyone knows, maybe you can let me know. It is stitched with two of my favourites - 48ct blanc cassé Gander linen and AVAS 2925.

*Edited* Paule from France has let me know that the freebie pattern can be found *here*
She also added that it was probably an advertisement for the French coton brand 'L.V Cotons' from Paris. Thanks for the link and the information Paule.

Elisa from Old Ragged Threads said I could post her picture of Sew a Brown Bunny but before I could do so, she sent me another picture ...

... of her finish into a delightful pillow! It is stitched on 32ct Antique Ivory Belfast linen using Crescent Colour 'Avocado' and 'Bunny Honey'. Congratulations Elisa - such a beautiful finish and thank you for allowing me to post it here.

Sew a Brown Bunny is still available *here* or by clicking on the CHARTS button on the sidebar.

Whilst surfing around late last night I landed on a Russian blog *here* where there is a really pretty version of Sew le coeur de Paris.

I'll finish off with a picture of one of my 'bleeding hearts'. I had forgotten that I had planted these in the garden last year and when they first came up I wondered what they were. Such a pretty flower.

Thanks for visiting
Take care

Sew 'Five' ? Brown Bunnies, Sew Peaceful and a further giveaway!

Barbara of Barb's Rambling - stitching 'n things has also stitched Sew a Brown Bunny and sent me the above picture. This was Barb's first attempt at stitching on 40ct linen and didn't she do a grand job? She got carried away with her brown bunnies and so this really should now be called 'Sew Five Brown Bunnies'! The reverse has a pretty Spring green fabric embellished with a green heart button in the centre. I smiled when I saw this as my own pillow, although I backed it with the same linen I used for stitching, I stitched a green heart on the back! After Barb's hard work she RAK'd this pillow to a bunny loving friend.

I also heard from Maggee of Stitching Devotee with a picture of her finish of Sew Peaceful that she also gifted to a friend last Christmas. It's stitched on either 25 or 28ct of white Lugana using DMC threads from her stash. She tells me that her friend loved it so much she still has it hanging up in her office surrounded by Easter decals.

A big thank you to Barbara and Maggee for allowing me to post their beautiful pieces.

Both Sew a Brown Bunny and Sew Peaceful are still available *here* or by clicking on the CHARTS button on the sidebar. The 2010 Christmas freebie, Sew Red, Sew Blue and Sew autumn freebies are also still available but must be requested at checkout.

And last, but certainly not least, Amy of Cross Stitch and Cupcakes is having a most generous 3rd blogoversary giveaways. Yes I said 'giveaways' as there are five of them! First up is for a selection of Aida fabrics in various sized and some Charles Craft huck towels. The second giveaway is for a selection of linen fabrics. The third giveaway is a limited edition box and Santa kit from Mosey n Me along with three limited edition thread packs from The Gentle Art. Number 4 is a selection of pillow kits from Pine Mountain, most with their pillow forms and the final giveaway is a selection of charts from Amy's stash - some are even kitted with floss, fabric and embellishments. You can enter multiple giveaways by leaving a comment stating which numbers you are interested in. If you post a link of your blog you will also receive a second entry. You have until April 19 to enter.

Two iStitch Designs - two finishes!

Michele of Just Another Stitching Blog sent me a picture of her recent finish of Sew a Brown Bunny. Stitched on a miscellaneous piece of 28ct linen with GAST Shutter Green and Belle Soie's Chocolat, Michele chose to finish this as a pillow using the pretty green fabric in the background for the backing. Michele also loved this pattern so much she asked me if it were possible for her to RAK others with the it. I hope her recipients were happy to receive their gifts!

Shari of Shari's Sharings also sent me a picture of her interpretation of Sew Red stitched with Dinky Dyes Madi's Rose and Choco Latte on a mystery (?) linen. Shari is undecided how to finish this piece and is thinking of a needlebook or a stitching journal. I am sure either one will be perfect.

Thank you to both Michele and Shari for allowing me to post these pictures of their lovely stitching. If you have an iStitch finish, I would love to both see it and showcase it so please send it to me with details of fabric and threads used. You can find my email address on my profile.

Sew a Brown Bunny and Sew Red (free with any purchase) are both still available *here* or by clicking on the CHARTS button on the sidebar.

I have now finished stitching the tiny red French sampler LV Paris. I love it but am now wondering whether to hem-stitch it before framing it. I will post a picture shortly.

After my visit to the doctor last week, I am pleased to say that I have now recovered but ... if you remember I mentioned the 'coughing in the waiting room'? Oh yes now I have the most awful cough/cold which means that despite sleeping with 3 pillows, I have not slept properly for the past 3 nights! So if are not very sick when you go to the doctor, you certainly are when you come out!

Take care

Another French red sampler

Click on the picture for a closeup view

Thank you to all those who left 'get well' comments, sent emails and e-cards - much appreciated! I am feeling a lot better now that the antibiotics have started to work and to prove it I had a new start yesterday of yet another little French red sampler. I know this pattern was a freebie but I have no idea of where I found it - maybe someone recognises it? At the bottom of the alphabet it has the initials LV and the word Paris. I have no idea if the stitcher was LV who lived in Paris or if the name was indeed LV Paris. I am using AVAS Soie d'alger 2925 on 48ct blanc cassé Gander linen - two of my favourite combinations of fabric and floss.

I received a RAK from Simone of Soed Idee this morning - a skein of Victorian Motto Sampler Shoppe's hand-dyed floss in a fabulous colour called Turkey Red - I can't wait to try this out - thank you Simone! Simone has some wonderful new charts and kits in her new Atelier Soed Idee shop so go *here* and check this out as I am sure you will fall in love with her designs.

The sun is out today and I think it may even be warm enough to sit outside later or at least I am hoping it is!

Thanks for visiting
Take care

No stitching ...

... these past few days as I have been unwell; unwell enough to necessitate a trip to the doctor. I don't have a 'doctor' phobia but if I can avoid visiting the doctor I will. I hate sitting around in stuffy crowded waiting rooms with people coughing - enough said. I won't go into details but I now have antibiotics and hopefully will be ok once these kick in.

So, as no stitching means no stitching pictures, I thought you might enjoy seeing my 'front' garden. We live in a Mews which has a shared bricked courtyard out front so we don't actually have a garden - just a little piece under the window which looks so pretty at the moment with the yellow primroses and the mauve aubretia.

Last Sunday was Mother's Day here in the UK so we went out for lunch at a pub/restaurant out in the countryside. On the way back we avoided the main roads and drove through small villages and came across 'Kirby Cottage' so I had to take a picture!

I am hoping to have some stitching pictures to show you next time round.

Thanks for visiting
Take care
