Socks. Minis and Advent SAL news

On my last trip to Florida I brought some fancy sock yarn, a pattern book and needles and I did make a start but it got put away and I forgot about it until I went to Stitch-n-Bitch last week and saw that my friend Sue was knitting socks. Last night out came my needles, yarn and pattern and l knitted the above. Not too bad for my first time knitting with four needles and, hopefully, I will be wearing these socks shortly. I finished knitting the Aran cardigan I started last year but am ashamed to say that the pieces are not yet stitched together - I enjoy knitting but not the making up!

All is ready for the Sew Advent sampler SAL 2013 and the patterns are ready to be sent out on a daily basis. I'm not sure I can wait until December as I am raring to go. There are only a few spaces available so if you are interested in joining please email me as soon as possible - you can find my email address on my profile.

Tomorrow is the last of the Kent Region's Mini rally - the Breakfast Run. We meet at 10am at the famous Roadhouse Cafe in Lenhan *here* where a full English Breakfast will be served and we will be given our 'day packs' containing instructions for the rally. This is followed by a two hour run through country roads to finish at the newly refurbished Broad Oak Mini Dealer in Ashford for tea/coffee and a tour of the dealership.  Mmnn  I quite fancy a new Mini! Pictures to follow in my next post.

We have two Stitch-n-Bitchers' birthdays on October 31 so instead of meeting as usual on the Wednesday we are meeting up on Tuesday at a local restaurant for dinner and gift giving. An early Happy Birthday to Sue and Sylvie our very own Halloween witches!

Take care

SAL update and a Mini Adventure

My stitching of the Camille Jullien SAL on 64ct linen with Tudor Silk thread is coming along slowly but surely! Apologies for the poor picture it looked fine onscreen but now looks a little blurry. I will try to get a better picture for the next update!

Last Sunday we had another Mini Adventure. If you remember last May we went to France *here* but this time we stayed local and did the Ham Sandwich run. You may wonder what the Ham Sandwich refers to - it's nothing to do with food but refers to two local places - Ham is a tiny village and Sandwich a town in Kent - see the road sign! We started from the Transport Museum in Dover *here* and drove cross country to finish up at the Viking Ship *here* where we had a Teddy Bear's Picnic. Most people had brought along a bear to join in the fun so there was a competition to find the best bear chosen by Georgia. As Georgia is my grand-daughter, my bear Winston, was not allowed to be in the competition but I am sure he enjoyed the day out and for those who are wondering, he was allowed to travel inside the car and not on the mirror! After an enjoyable lunch part 2 of the rally began which was another cross country route to finish at the Hornby Centre *here*. Part 3 took us again cross country to a final finish at the Griffins Head, Chillenden *here* where there was a BBQ and the prize giving. We didn't win as our mileage was under what it should have been - I guess we took a shortcut at some point ;-)  It was a really fun day and we are already looking forward to the next Mini Adventure!

I'm off to the dentist now - wish me luck!

A Mini Adventure! (picture heavy)

I finished stitching page 4 of my Sajou booklet and am about to start another page. For the scissor enthusiast the scissors are white Kelmscott Little Gems which come in a variety colours and are available *here*

Yesterday we went on a 'Mini Adventure'. My son Justin and his lovely wife AnnMarie run the Mini Cooper Registration - Kent Region and they arranged a Rally to take place in North West France. We met at McDonalds in Whitfield, Dover and as you can see from the pictures there were a variety of minis taking part. Can you pick out my mini?

We travelled the short distance from Whitfield to the Docks at Dover in convoy where we lined up ready to board the P&O cross channel ferry. I spotted a number '37' and took a quick picture for my 37 board on Pinterest.

Once on board I decided to go out on deck to take some pictures of the famous 'White Cliffs of Dover' as we left the harbour.

Once we arrived in Calais we drove to Oye-Plage, Nord-Par-de Calais where the morning rally was to start. Luckily there was a Carrefour opposite so Ken could stock up on Lays crisps (chips). We cannot get them here in the UK so he always buys some wherever and whenever he can!

The cars left Oye-Plage in four minute intervals following well-written instructions through country roads to the finish at St Omer. We soon caught up and overtook the car ahead of us and eventually arrived in St Omer Centre where, once all the cars arrived, we headed to a local restaurant for lunch.

The afternoon rally left St Omer and finished at St Josephs Village *here*.  Leaving here we drove back to Calais for the return ferry. Unfortunately, the cars were split up here at check in and although the majority of people were able to catch one ferry three cars (including us) had to wait for the next ferry and we missed the on board celebrations as to who won. Justin texted me to say we had come in second. If only Ken would have trusted my navigation (we were on the right road but he wasn't so sure) we might have won!

It was a really good day and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
