Gifts and a little competition! EDITED!

These are two books which I received over the holiday period. The first one, a birthday gift from my fellow Stitch-n-Bitcher Caroline (no blog), is Isabelle Vautier's 'Les Samplers en Rouge et Blanc'. Caroline went on a trip to Paris a couple of months ago and she knows how much I admire Isabelle's work. Thank you Caroline.

The second book, a gift from my daughter Nicola, is also from France - 'Cross Stitch Letters Bible/Des Lettres au Point de Croix' by Valérie Lejeune. This fantastic book has 844 alphabets ranging from 1 point (stitch) to 55 points and also has numbers and letters on the bias. Just the book I need for iStitch Charts designing. Thank you Nicola.

This birthday card and three HDF mystery threads came from Valerie in San Francisco. Thank you Valerie - much appreciated.

I have more stitching gifts to share with you and will post them sporadically over a few days.

And now a little competition ...

Another new iStitch chart is printed and awaits needle and thread. This needs a 'Sew' name and, I must admit, I am finding it difficult to find 'the right one'. So here's the deal: I will tell you a little about this design and ask for suggested names. If I use the name you suggest, you will win a free chart of this design! If the name I use is suggested by more than one person, only the first person who suggested it will win. The name must have the word 'Sew' in it. The closing date is January 10 which day happens to be my son's birthday.

The chart comprises a border containing an alphabet, numbers, a squirrel, a rabbit, a fox, a bird, a butterfly, two cats and two dogs plus a few other motifs, including my signature 'open heart' and, of course, the year 2010. I originally thought to call it 'Sew Wild or Wildlife' but, as cats and dogs are not usually thought of as wild animals, I rejected this name. 'Sew Animals' does not have a 'ring' to it. So - I am open to suggestions. As always, please leave an email address with your comment if it is not shown on your profile.

Thanks for visiting
Take care

Edited: Sew Spring seems a quite popular suggestion but Sew Spring is already charted and will be released late February. I will say no more!

gosh, only the second person here & I thought the same as the above person.
I was trying to come up with a clever way to spell it...
    sew nature-al (natural)

  • On 3 January 2010 at 12:59, Blogger Robin

Before I even finished reading, I instantly knew Sew Natural was my idea. Only the 5 comment and 2 others have the same idea already. I think you may have your answer!

I was thinking sew forest, but the more I think about it the more that doesn't fix either. Cats and dogs are pets but than sew pets doesn't fix darn you gave us a hard one.
But what ever you call it I am sure its going to be great.

  • On 3 January 2010 at 13:40, Blogger Margaret

All I could think of was Sew Creatures or Sew Creation.

  • On 3 January 2010 at 13:41, Blogger Myra

Can't wait to see it Carol. I love animal charts. :o) How about "Sew Fauna"?

  • On 3 January 2010 at 13:42, Blogger Catherine

Sew Menagerie? But then again, I think a menagerie is supposed to be a collection of wild animals...perhaps your dog could be wild and your cat could be feral:)! Then you could still use Sew Wild as a choice!

  • On 3 January 2010 at 13:46, Blogger Marnie

I immediately thought "Sew Menagerie". Loved the book, The Glass Menagerie.

  • On 3 January 2010 at 14:10, Blogger staci

    Wonderful gifts Carol, enjoy!

Hmmm...I'm not very good at coming up with creative names. Sew Furry? Although birds and butterflies aren't. Sew Companion? I like Margaret's suggestion (sew creatures.)

  • On 3 January 2010 at 14:24, Blogger Nic

    Lovely gifts

My first thought for the chart was "Sew Fauna" which I see someone else came up with ...

My second thought was "Sew Being" - and then I had third thoughts - "Sew Living"

Whatever the name of the chart, I'm sure it will look lovely!

  • On 3 January 2010 at 14:27, Blogger Suburban Stitcher

My first instinct was sew menagerie...but I see that someone else has also suggested that name. I think that it could work...

  • On 3 January 2010 at 14:32, Blogger Yuko

It's hard to think about the name in English for me, though...
    "Sew hearty animals"

SMILe, I will keep in touch in a few days, so please wait for me to write to you!

    Bye for now,

    Yuko ((hugs))

I thought of "Sew Celebrate Spring" because it incorporates the celebration of your son's birthday on the day you are choosing the winner, along with spring when all the new animals are born.

    Sew blessed.

  • On 3 January 2010 at 16:42, Blogger Deb

My first thought was Sew Nature, but I see that someone else has that. How about Sew Spring - for some reason with all those animals I thought of them romping outside when the weather gets warm.

  • On 3 January 2010 at 18:24, Blogger Daffycat

Animals and insects? How about Sew Alive?

  • On 3 January 2010 at 18:42, Blogger Melissa

I had the same thought as several others. LOL Sew Nature/Natural immediately came to my mind after reading your description.

  • On 3 January 2010 at 19:03, Blogger Vaida

    Great presents!

Hm, I also thinked about Sew Spring - or maybe Sew Happy Spring, LOL. Cannot wait to see the picture

  • On 3 January 2010 at 20:10, Blogger LisaG

Sew Pretty instantly sprang to mind but then all your designs are pretty.

Looking at the suggestions I would have to say that Sew Nature/Natural would be a lovely choice.

    Hi Carol

    Happy new year.

My suggestion is Sew Woodland, which to me would cover all the animals - cats and dogs included (my cats love to roam in the bush, and people walk their dogs in there too).

  • On 3 January 2010 at 22:10, Blogger Annie Bee

    Great suggestions from everyone.

"Sew Creation or Created" is my thought as trees animals etc are all created. Don't think I read this yet.

  • On 4 January 2010 at 00:06, Blogger Lisa V

I have come up with the following for you:

    Sew Critter

oh and I have Sew Noel finished and the picture is on my blog if you'd like to see it .. Karen really did a lovely job of finishing :) and I absolutely love the design .. even with my fobbles

  • On 4 January 2010 at 00:29, Blogger Berit

How about "Sew Menagerie"? If animals is too pedestrian, "menagerie" has the whimsy it lacks. :D

  • On 4 January 2010 at 00:31, Blogger Berit

I see that someone else has said, "Sew Woodland", I also like that, but then I do just like the word "Woodland". :D

  • On 4 January 2010 at 02:26, Blogger valerie

Oh, what great books! I saw the Lejeune book at NiaH and that ones a monster! I refrained though since I have the original alphabet book.

As far as the contest, Sew Furry comes to mind but birds are feathery and well, butterflies are kind of downy but not furry. But Sew Furry sounds cute! I'll think more...

I owe you an email...so glad you got the threads safely. It took over 2 weeks...I think that's a record for slow US to UK time. :)

    Good luck deciding!!

  • On 5 January 2010 at 13:03, Blogger Lisa

Wow, good thing I read through them before posting. I guess smart stitching friends think alike. So in order to be original how about:
Sew Four Footed Friends or Sew FFFs
Thank you for the challenge and take care!

  • On 5 January 2010 at 13:30, Blogger Candace

    Another suggestion -

    Sew B's (Birds, Butterflies,& Beasties)

  • On 5 January 2010 at 14:24, Blogger Lindsay

Because they are all things that come to mind when i think of the countryside my suggestion is Sew English

    Hi Carol,

How about "Sew Fur, Feather and
    Flutter"??

Although I have to admit that if
you want brevity and to stick to
the same format as the names of
your other designs then Sew Nature
    is probably the winner.

    Cheers!

  • On 6 January 2010 at 18:05, Blogger Sue

What wonderful suggestions! I think you have a new dilemma...which name, too many to choose from! Well, my suggestion is Sew Fable. Just because animals remind me of fables!

    Carol hi,
What great books you received. There's hours of fun there.
I can see you have got the imaginations of the stitching world motivated and what great ideas they have come up with. Most of my original ones have been used but I do like a couple of very original ones there.
    My suggestions are

Sew Full of Wonder - or even shorter
Sew Wonderful - simply because natural creation is so wonderful.

Ooh, quick, just before I was about to click off I came up with another idea:

    Sew Bright and Beautiful

    from the hymn
    All things bright and beautiful
    All creatures great and small
    All things wise and wonderful
The good Lord made them all :>)

Good luck with choosing form all the lovely suggestions.
    Angela xx
PS If I can only have one choice it's the Bright and Beautiful one :>)

  • On 8 January 2010 at 05:26, Blogger Jennifer

Well the butterfly and bird throw off my idea of "Sew Furry (or Fuzzy)".

    How about Sew Friendly?

  • On 8 January 2010 at 13:49, Blogger Sunny

Hi Carol, I was thinking you should name it Sew Furry Friends with the animals in it they must be friends to get along in it.
Can not wait to see it.

    Hugs Sunny
