76 days to Christmas!

On Wednesday I had a finishing session and completed Kirby's ornament. I stitched part of The Workbasket's Christmas Sampler from the Just Cross Stitch Ornament issue 2001  and finished it as a tiny needleroll. It measures just over 4" in length and is stitched on 35ct white Brussels linen with Au Ver a Soie threads and has a tiny heart button embellishment. I wanted to add a hanger so I hand twisted some white perle cotton and attached this to a button which I then placed inside the needleroll before tying the top ribbon so the hanger is firmly attached. As this needleroll is so small I had to completely hand-stitch the back seam as it would not have been possible to turn it inside out to do the French seam.

Next is Jack's 'Home for the Holidays". I gave sneak previews of this in earlier posts (here). I finished this as a pillow edged with white Delica beads and on the back I stitched on beads randomly to look as though it is snowing. If you check out Jack's name closely you can see snow along the top of his name! It is stitched on 36ct lambswool linen with my choice of DMC threads and beads.

Yesterday I went to the Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace in London. It was a long and tiring day - it took us 2 hours to get there and 3 1/2 hours to get home - but we had a great time and, of course, I picked up some stash. Not too much as there were more wools, beads and crafting stalls but enough to keep me happy. I did take my camera with me so my next post will be picture heavy.

Snow?

I guess it must have snowed last night because my little house and the trees now have a slight layer of snow on them! This ornament is really sweet and I am enjoying stitching it. I expect I will finish the stitching tonight although I will probably do a stitched back too and then it can join the other projects awaiting my finishing day and, as Ken has told me he will be going to a football (soccer) away game on Saturday, it looks as though Saturday might be The Day.

I went into work today to find my desk piled high with files but I managed to work through these and another, smaller pile too. I called into the library on my way home as I had completely run out of books and I just hate not having a book at the ready. I have read 30 plus books this year and I say 'plus' as I forgot to put a few on my list. I am going to own up now - once I've read a book I write my initials (in pencil) on the very last page so when I pick up a book in the library I can tell immediately whether or not I have read it! Quite often I would choose a book, get home, start to read it and discover that I had already read it! I don't agree with 'writing in books' but these are tiny initials and in pencil. I have also noticed that someone circles or crosses out page 8 in ink - not the whole page, just the 8 at the bottom. I wonder if this is their way of saying "you've read this book - put it back" or do they have a strange aversion to the number 8?

Stash and a stitch

A little stash arrived this morning, firstly an Ebay purchase, The Goode Huswife's 'A Quaker Four Corners Sampler' which I am going to alter slightly and make into a biscornu. I will stitch this on 40ct linen with the Waterlillies Cherry silk floss which also arrived in the mail today. The scissor fob which I purchased from Yuko's Etsy shop also arrived. This was beautifully packaged and is made from some really pretty flower beads with a gorgeous mother-of-pearl butterfly at the bottom. Unfortunately the butterfly doesn't show up in the picture so have a look at the one on Yuko's blog - isn't it just gorgeous?

I have a lot of projects ready for finishing so I need another marathon finishing day but yesterday I wanted something small to stitch out in the garden so the tiny house is the beginning of a Christmas ornament. *I have no idea who the designer is - maybe someone knows? I am stitching from a picture that I found on the internet. It looks as though it was originally stitched in variagated threads but I am using DMC on 36ct lambswool linen.

Tomorrow I am back at work for the rest of this week, 4 days next week and 2 the week after that so I don't suppose I will get much stitching or blogging done so I am off to finish my chores and maybe make a start on some finishing.

* Edited - Jennifer tells me this is Drawn Thread's Home for the Holidays (here) - thank's Jennifer!
