Orts and the tale of Christmas cactus!

As I always forget to post a picture of my orts jar on the New Moon (or should that be on the Full Moon), I have decided to post a monthly picture at the end of each month and, yes, I know I'm late but it is only the third! So what have we got inside for March - some teal blue from Sew Peacock, some rust red from Sew Quaker and some deep red from my miniature stitching. And what, you may ask, is the jar standing on? Why of course it's a sneak glimpse of the Sew Summer chart!

This stunning Christmas cactus belongs to Angela (no blog) - just look at all those flowers in full bloom!

And now ...

... my Christmas cactus! Ok stop laughing. It's not that funny, in fact it's quite sad :´( I have been tending this cactus for a couple of years now and it's never had more than 3 flowers at one time. Angela has now sent me some tips which I will follow religiously so come Christmas 2010 my cactus will be as lovely as hers!

I have a couple of projects that I've been working on for the past couple of days, that tiny little red sampler on which I am hem-stitching the borders around the four sections, and I've also made a start on Sew Summer. Pictures to follow in a day or so.

Today is my daughter Nicola's birthday. Happy Birthday Nicola - I love you lots!

I love Christmas cacti! I used to have one, and it would bloom at least twice during the winter. I wish I had one now. I bet your cactus will look as good as Angela's by xmas!

I have never had much luck getting Christmas cactus plants to bloom either. Thank you for sharing a picture of Angela's with us!

Your cactus beats the two that I own - they don't flower ever. But they belonged to my great-aunt, who has been gone for nearly 20 years, and as long as I have them I feel like a little bit of her is still alive. If you get any good tips please share them!

Wow, how is Angela's so huge? It's amazing! I'd love it if you share the tips too. I overwatered mine and it almost died! *The boy* brought it back to life but it's still recuperating.

Haha Carol,
It seems as if the cactus is causing a sensation :>) It's a few years old now and I have to say it seems to have a bit of a split personality because it flowers both at Christmas and at Easter and it always flowers heavily. But...........it never used to...haha!
I'll leave you to reveal the secret formula :>)

One tip though is it's far better to under water than over water. It is a cactus and is quite happy with dry conditions:>)

Well, your Christmas Cactus are in way better shape then mine, which seldom flowers and even when it does, the flowers turn white.....
