He's awake!

Tommy has woken from his winter sleep. It's strange but you can almost set a clock by him - he goes into hibernation the second weekend in October and awakens the second weekend in March! He's still a bit lethargic but he's happy enough to be in sunshine in the garden. I still have to put him in his box overnight for a while but once it's warmer he will stay out all the time. I must admit I was a little worried as we all know that it's been an extremely cold winter but here he is.

It's really sunny here today and very warm in the sunshine; Kirby is going to back to uni this morning after her weekend home for Mother's Day.

Thanks for visiting
Take care

That's so neat! I didn't know you had a turtle! Nor did I know they hibernate! :D Hope you had a good weekend with your daughter!

We used to have two of those when I was a kid. I live in southern California and also when I was a kid you would find them wild all over in the deserts, that's where we got ours. Now you don't see them anymore and if you did, they are protected and it's a big fine if you take them. Ours didn't hibernate that long because it never gets that cold here.

How cute! I've always wanted a turtle, and wondered if it could survive the cold. I didn't know that they went into hibernation! I probably would have thought he was dead, and disposed of him! (Can you imagine?)
    Thanks for sharing!

I've known about Tommy for a bit, but where did you get him? Did he just wander in to your garden? Do you scoop him up and keep him somewhere (that box you mentioned, perhaps) throughout the winter?

    I (Not Just) Carol:

I am a city girl now living on a farm in midwest USA. My grandpa had snapping turtles in his basement to consume bugs, etc.
So, I am wondering do you have a fence for Tommy or does he stay on his own ?

Also, embroidery floss in UK and France seems to come on a spool - ours does not. Thanks, KarenBourbonMo

    Great,
if Tommy's woken up Spring must be on the way. Glad he's enjoyed his long winter sleep. It's been lovely these last few days and today especially has been lovely and warm but the evenings get very cold so I think Tommy's grateful that he's tucked up nice and warm at night :>)
